The simplest and most common type of ultrasonic transducer (probe) applied is the so called “conventional piezo-probe” (PP).
It contains one or several crystals creating independent transmitting or receiving, or receiving+ transmitting channels.
This kind of probe is relatively cheap, but for AUT-purposes applications looks today a bit old-fashioned.
The amount of probes required to perform automatic Ultrasonic testing is large and all need a medium (mostly water) between their working surface and test object. Adjustment of such probes is manual, frequent and complicated.
